Hindi Idioms in English with sentence

Idioms can help a speaker convey the meaning more imaginatively. They are also employed to get a listener’s attention. Following are the English translations of some of the most common Hindi idioms. Read, memorize and use them in your language.
1. अंत भला तो सब भला - All's Well that ends well
My uncle had to face lots of problems setting up his business. Now, after much effort, the business is thriving and he is making money. “All is well that ends well.”
2. अंधों में काना राजा- A figure among ciphers.
Winning this tournament was not difficult for them as the other teams were not competent enough - “A figure among ciphers”
3. जैसा बाप, वैसा बेटा- Like father, like son hers.
No wonder he was caught for committing robbery. His dad also did time for swindling. “Like father, like son.”
4. एक पंथ दो काज - To kill two birds with one stone
The internship helped him gain experience and earn good stipend as well – “killing two birds with one stone”
5. ऊंची दुकान फीका पकवान - Great boast, little roast
We chose the best hotel in town for the reception. However, the food quality was really pathetic. A case of “great boast, little roast”
6. ऊंट के मुँह में जीरा - A drop in the ocean
The amount you are offering is just “a drop in the ocean” for the kind of service you are expecting.
7. आधी छोड़ पूरी को धावे, आधी मिले न पूरी पावे - He who grasps all things will lose all.
A hunter was about to get hold of the bird stuck in the bushes, when his attention was caught by the two more birds trapped in the bush afar. No sooner did he leave the first bird, tempted to grab the two, all three fluttered off. A case of “he who grasps all………”
8. एक मछली सारे तालाब को गंदा कर देती है - A black sheep infects the whole flock. ers.
You shouldn’t have let the first guy park here. Now, everyone has followed suit. “A black sheep ………….”
9. एक ही थाली के चट्टे बट्टे - Cast in the same mould.
All the officials in this department ask favors to forward the public grievances to the higher authorities. They are all cast in the same mould.
10. एक हाथ से ताली नहीं बजती - It takes two to make a quarrel.
The policeman did not believe his story when the motorcyclist put the whole blame on the passer-by for the brawl. “It takes two to make a quarrel”, the policeman quipped.
