Such has been the attraction of Portugal, that latest numbers by the Portuguese Association for Real Estate Agents (APEMIP) said a quarter of all properties sold in Portugal in 2017 were to foreign buyers. Last year also saw a rise of more than 25 percent in terms of property sales on 2016.

APEMIP say current projections allow them “to forecast that the real estate market will grow once again in 2018.”

Property prices have meanwhile shown no sign of slowing down. Lisbon saw prices rise by 37 percent in the space of a year, while they were up by 18 percent in the Algarve.

If this is not enough, the World Travel Awards, known as the Oscars of Tourism, elected Portugal as the World’s Best Destination in December.
