To start any kind of food business in India, one should have a Food License according to the Indian Government. Now a days, Home Bakery is getting popular because any one can start the business with small investment and can sell in any online facilities.


FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is an independent body which is formed under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, by the Indian Government in 2006. Food License is needed because it promotes and protects the health of the public through the rules and regulations of food safety. The headquarters of the FSSAI is located in New Delhi.


According to the Indian law it is mandatory of having a Food License for the home bakers. To be the part of many popular food delivery sites and to sell bakery items in Zomato, Swiggy, UberEATS etc. it is mandatory to have a FSSAI registration done because at the time of registration on various e-commerce as well as on several other delivery sites FSSAI registration is asked. Without having the FSSAI registration done the home baking business is not considered as a legal business. The FSSAI registration is available for the tenure of 1-5 years for home bakers.


A self-attested Aadhar card/ Voter Card of Owner/ Partners, and a self-attested photograph are the following documents required for the application of food license for a home baker in India. The home bakers can Apply Online FSSAI Food License . After the application gets approved the baker gets a 14-digit registration number.


According to the State Food Safety Department of India this has been recently announced that if any home bakers do not have any FSSAI registration done then they have to pay a penalty of Rs. 5 lakh and might be send behind the bars for up to 6 months.
