The Oak Knoll District (OKD) of Napa Valley AVA is an American Viticultural Arealocated within Napa Valley AVA. It was officially recognized as an American Viticultural Area (AVA) of Napa Valley in 2004.The District lies at the southern end of the renowned Napa Valley where the growing season is longer, cooler in summer than the warmer Upper Valley, and drier in winter allowing soils to warm earlier in the spring. The different variety of wine grapes do well in this climate, including varieties not widely grown in other parts of Napa Valley, such as Riesling & Pinot noir. The Oak Knoll District (OKD) is planted largely to Merlot, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, in that order. The District Chardonnay has a reputation for a restrained, delicate style.The Oak Knoll District (OKD) plants more than 18 classic wine grape varieties, and comprised of more than 8,300 acres & nearly 4,200 acres planted to grapevines. They are growing more varieties of grapes in Oak Knoll District (OKD), than any other an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Napa Valley.
