A Baptist minister has taken it upon himself to compile Bible lessons for public school teachers in Oklahoma. Parents, teachers, students, curriculum committees, and anyone with an internet connection can now get a free copy of the 1422-page compendium of resources that was created to help teachers comply with Ryan Walters’s mandate to teach the Bible in Oklahoma public schools.
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, the Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction released an instructional support document advising Oklahoma teachers how to adhere to his mandatory directive to utilize the Bible in public classroom instruction. Superintendent Ryan Walters divided this guidance into three categories: Historical Context, Literary Significance, and Artistic and Musical Influence.
The free eBook, entitled "Eighteen OK Lessons" makes it clear that these new materials were not produced by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, or any district, or school. The free resources include eighteen Bible lessons for elementary through high school students, a copy of the U.S. Constitution, a copy of the U.S. Declaration of Independence, three different copies of the ten commandments suitable for posting in classrooms, and a complete copy of the Old and New Testament texts used by the interpreters of the King James Version of the Bible, for historical accuracy.
The author hopes parents and school curriculum teams will review the resources and then provide feedback to state school superintendent Ryan Walters concerning the suitability of the Bible for use in classroom instruction, adding "I've made the materials available for download for free, in eBook form, at online booksellers, like Barnes and Noble and other stores, and they can download a free copy in pdf form too." The free pdf contains the same content as the eBook version of the resources, only with slightly different formatting. The pdf version of these materials is available online at publicschoolbiblelessons dot com.
