While the debate over the long term negative consequences of hydraulic fracturing or “fracking” on the environment rages on, Dalian Exploration has reaffirmed its commitment to the safe and environmentally considerate application of the technique in its own operations.

Fracking has drawn considerable negative attention on account of the potential for chemicals used in the process of extracting natural gas from shale rock to seep into groundwater and, in some instances, cause earth tremors.

“Fracking technology is hardly new but as the production of gas and crude oil by conventional methods has become more expensive, more countries have begun to embrace it as a way of producing the energy they need at lower cost but often, they’ve appeared to be dismissive of the environmental concerns,” said a Dalian Exploration spokeswoman.

“Here at Dalian Exploration, we feel that the image of our industry is not best served if we are seen to be ignoring or making light of the concerns of the communities in the vicinities of our operations. With this in mind, we reiterate our commitment to working with communities in order to assuage their fears over groundwater contamination,” she added.

Dalian Exploration uses proprietary chemicals in addition to the sand and water it forces into solid rock fissures in order to release natural gas.

“We’re hoping that, despite the marginally higher cost of these chemicals, the rest of our industry will follow our example and endeavor to allay the legitimate fears of those with whom we share our earth while still preserving the financial viability of fracking,” she concluded.
