What are colored contact lenses and why do you use them?

People have the impression that colored contact lenses are just for cosmetic use but in fact, there are many reasons for using them.

Colored contact lenses have many uses, some cosmetics and others for medical reasons. Whatever your reason for using them, they are perfectly safe to use and can be beneficial to you if you have an eye condition.

Some people have issues with the color of their eyes. It might be that the color is dull and they don’t feel that they stand out. It might be that the color of the eyes is different, which a condition is called Heterochromia. Another common reason is that your eyes are very light blue making them ultra-sensitive to light. All of these reasons warrant the use of colored contact lenses.

T. Ahmed, the manager at Oakes Opticians in Huddersfield reported that “it is common for people to come into the opticians distressed about the color of their eyes. They often don’t realise that there is a quick and easy solution for this with colored contact lenses.”

Colored contact lenses are designed to cover the iris area only. There are several main types. The first type enhances the color of your natural eye color. This is particularly wanted by people who have grey and light brown eyes. The color becomes instantly more vibrant and the look is very natural making it hard to spot that you are wearing them.

“The effects of changing eye color are very quick. If you suffer from light sensitivity it can feel like putting on the best pair of sunglasses only you don’t need to worry about wearing glasses,” added T. Ahmed of Oakes Opticians.

You treat your colored contact lenses the same as you would with any other types of contact lenses. You can get them in daily soft lenses or wide lenses that you wear for a month. Make sure to watch how your eyes react to wearing them but on the whole, most people have no complaints and forget they are even wearing them.

On top of this, you will need to start using a saline solution to keep your lenses in and be careful not to place any dirt into your eye when putting them in. The team at Oakes Opticians will talk you through the exact care routine needed to keep your eyes infection-free.
