NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (December 12, 2020) — For the second time this year, the City of North Chicago has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for excellence in financial reporting. The most recent recognition for North Chicago is for the city’s comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2019.
According to the GFOA, the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is “the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.” The group says the award, “accomplishment by a government and its management.”
“The City of North Chicago has been able to weather the COVID storm better than many municipalities, mainly because of our financial stewardship,” North Chicago Mayor, Leon Rockingham, Jr. said. “Our city’s Comptroller’s Office and leadership team has worked hard to bring the city to the point where we are today.”
Earlier year this year, North Chicago was recognized with the GOFA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
“Although we’ve been honored twice with the GFOA award for our budget document,” said North Chicago Chief of Staff Deb Waszak, “this is the first time we’ve been honored with this achievement for our comprehensive annual financial report. I am proud of our commitment to best practices and everyone on our team who made this happen.”
