Hair loss is also commonly known as alopecia or baldness. It is mostly referred to loss of hair from the part of the head or body.

Keratin is a protein which is generated in hair follicles and as follicles produce new cells, the old ones are pushed out. Hair as what we see is a sting of dead keratin cells. Every follicle has its life cycle which can be due to age, disorders, and a wide range of other factors. As age grows, one’s hair growth rate descends.

Types of Hair Loss

Alopecia Areata (AA): It is termed as patchy hair loss. It starts as small, bald patches on the scalp. AA often starts suddenly and causes patchy hair loss in children and young adults.

Involutional alopecia: It is a natural condition where the hair thins with age. Hair follicles go into the third final phase and as a result the left over becomes shorter and fewer in number.

Male pattern baldness (MPB): MPB also known as Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a genetic condition that affects men. This disorder affects men as early as age 20’s.

Female pattern baldness (FPB): It is a genetic condition that affects women. Women suffering FTB don't experience noticeable thinning until 40s or later.

Scarring alopecia: When the skin gets scarred, hair follicles in the skin are replaced by scar resulting in permanent loss and is irreversible. It affects both men and women across all ages.

Alopecia universalis: It causes all body hair to fall out, including the eyebrows, eyelashes, and pubic hair.
