Tata Technologies, recently, partnered with N.K. Orchid College of Engineering, Solapur to launch the ‘Distance Ready Engineer’platform, as a part of its Corporate Sustainability Program.

The initiative aims to improve the employability of engineers and reduce the time and resources spent by companies on re-training the graduate engineers. According to a recent survey in India, the third edition of the National Employability Report, Engineering Graduates – 2014, though 18.33% of the engineers are employable, 18.09% actually get a job.

The ‘Distance Ready Engineer’ program as an industry-academia interface is a means to enhance design and application skills of students and work towards creating a pool of highly qualified and industry-ready professionals.

The program was launched as part of N.K. Orchid College of Engineering & Technology’s 7thFoundation Day celebrations. The felicitation ceremony for the program was conducted with inspiring innovators, such as, Mr. Piyush Somani, MD & CEO, ESDS Software Solution and Mr. Gundu Sabde, an eminent innovator in the field of ‘Solar Energy’ and founder of Reylon Solar Pvt. Ltd. “With 356 million 10-24 year-olds, India has the world’s largest youth population, despite having a smaller population than China[1].

This makes India the largest talent hub for all global industries today. It is, therefore, crucial that we develop and create to have an industry-ready workforce. Especially, at a time when we flagged off the ‘Make in India’ Campaign the expansion in manufacturing sector will require additional pumping of talented individuals to focus on Zero defect quality, E-innovate, Ready Talent and opportunity.

Tata Technologies is taking a step in this direction through our Distance Ready Engineer Program and we hope, this will give students the right opportunity to grow,” said Anubhav Kapoor, Tata Technologies – General Counsel & Company Secretary.
