PET is the most common material for end-use parts and products, and is suitable for everything from consumer products to medical devices. PET is a versatile material with thousands of polymers to choose from, each with its own specific mechanical properties.

PET manufacturing processes have evolved to cover a wide range of applications and part geometries. For any designer and engineer engaged in product development, it is critical to be familiar with the manufacturing choices available today and the new developments that signal how parts will be manufactured tomorrow.

When choosing a manufacturing process for a Pet Bottle Preform, consider the following factors:

Form: Does your part have complex internal features or strict tolerance requirements? Depending on the geometry of the design, manufacturing options may be limited, or they may require a large number of manufacturing optimization designs to make their production more economical.

Volume/cost: What is the total volume or annual volume of the part you plan to produce? Some manufacturing processes have high upfront costs in terms of tools and installation, but the parts produced are relatively inexpensive on a per piece basis. In contrast, small batch processes have lower startup costs, but due to slower cycle times, lower automation, and manual labor, the cost per part remains the same or only slightly decreases as the batch increases.

Delivery cycle: How fast do you need to produce parts? Some processes produce the first parts in 24 hours, and some high-volume production processes require several months to process and install.

Material: What pressure and pressure does your product need to withstand? The best material for a given application is determined by many factors. Cost must be balanced with functional and aesthetic requirements. Consider the ideal characteristics of your specific application and compare it to the options available in a given manufacturing process.

PET type

PET has thousands of different base chemicals, derivatives and additives that are formulated to cover a wide range of functional and aesthetic properties. To simplify the process of finding the material that best fits a given part or product, let's look at two broad categories of PET: thermoplastic PET and thermoset PET.
Thermoplastic PET

Thermoplastic PET is the most commonly used PET. The main feature that makes them different from thermoset PET is that they are able to undergo multiple cycles of melting and curing without significant degradation. Thermoplastic PET is typically supplied in the form of small particles or flakes that are heated by various manufacturing processes and form the desired shape. This process is completely reversible because chemical bonding does not occur, which makes it possible to recover or melt and reuse thermoplastic PET.

Jilian Plastics provides a series of high-quality pet products. Our 5-Gallon Pet Preform have been loved and praised by consumers. If you have such needs, then we are your best choice. I believe we will never let you down.
