Being incarcerated would not mean the basic shopping rights will be seized from the convict forever. There are laws that govern the consumer rights of inmates as well. Every penal of the US have some constitution that allow the inmates to buy goods.

Whether a person is in jail or prison, he/she can enjoy his basic shopping rights with some outside funding sources. One can purchase food, clothing and even hobby supplies. However, getting the credit to buy things might not be easy for them.

Getting the commissary funds

The weightage of the credit will depend on the incarceration facility the person is into. Getting the credit into the inmate’s commissary account is a big hassle. When there was not internet, the family members or friends of the inmates had to visit the inmate in jail to supply the cash, check or certified money orders to a specified department for processing.

Today, in this digital age, transferring funds through online means have become quite easy. There are systems such as eComm Direct and so on with the help of which the family members can deposit a limited account in the inmate’s commissary account or can purchase some limited items to pick up for the inmate.

There are third party services that will eventually help the inmate’s loved ones to provide some usable funds for the inmates. The following are the items that an inmate can purchase in the prison or jail:

1.Snacks
2.Soft Drinks
3.Batteries and alarm clocks
4.Canned meat, soup, veggies
5.Condiments
6.Shower shoes/sandals
7.Stationary and writing implements

Depending on the location of the inmate, he/she can also purchase MP3 players or electronics. By accessing the public records more information on this can be gathered. For this or any marriage or even divorce related information, you can check out the divorce records of New York County.
