Kathmandu, Nepal – Although the MoCTCA had planned to organize Visit Nepal Campaign in 2018, it was put on hold due to the delay in construction of airports, heritage sites and roads. Government of Nepal along with ministry of Culture and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has planned to complete the construction and expansion of international and domestic airports, heritage sites and other tourism infrastructure before 2020 and make “Visit Nepal 2020 Campaign” a grand success.
The expansion of Tribhuwan International Airport and construction of Gautam Buddha Airport along with re-construction of heritage sites are major priorities of Nepal and about 80% work has been completed. It is estimated that all the construction program will be completed by late 2019.
Moreover, Nepal is organizing 60-days plan to promote country-wise tourism promotion program – that will help promotion organization to carry out promotional activities in concerned activities. Currently – the national of India, China, USA, IK and Sri Lanka are the foreign visitors of Nepal.
According to Minister Dev, MoCTCA is reviewing the reasons behind the low growth in tourism and necessary steps will be takes afterwards. He further added that an air service agreement was made with United Arab Emirates, Turkey and New Zealand and it will be finalized soon. He also said that MoCTCA will soon review the air service agreement with Thailand, Japan, Egypt and China among others.
MoCTCA is also amending the Casino Regulation, the Travel and Trekking Regulation and the Mountaineering Expedition Regulation to make the “Law and Rules” more travelers friendly.
Growth of Foreign Visitors in Nepal
In the year 2018, Nepal got booming tourism growth by 24% with the number of foreign tourists in Nepal reaching over the million mark of 1,173072 according to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). This growth is hugely significant when compared to the figures of 2017 which was only 940,218. It took Nepal two decades to achieve the one million milestone and now the Ministry of Culture and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) has targeted to boost tourism and reach the milestone of two million foreign visitors in the year 2020,
The year 2018 was a golden year for international tourism, the world tourism organization (UNTWO) estimates that there was an overall 6% growth totaling 1.6 billion of worldwide international tourist arrivals (overnight visitors).
