There have been fears that the United States is about to enter a recession. In light of this, some economists initially predicted that the Great Resignation spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic would begin to slow down as workers, fearing what’s to come, would opt to hold onto their existing jobs.

However, data from the latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests this is not likely to be the case. According to the data, in June 2022, the number of Americans quitting their jobs remained high, at some 4.2 million. Further, the number of hires was at 6.4 million while the number of job vacancies was at 10.7 million. This shows that millions of Americans continue opting to leave their jobs at a rate that is catching up to the rate at which they are being hired.

Despite this, many companies still refuse to offer remote work or flexible working options to their employees. However, numerous studies have shown that employees and jobseekers consider remote work options to be highly desirable. In fact, some studies have shown that workers would rather take a pay cut to be able to work from wherever they want.

The latest federal statistics serve as a reminder that companies are still at high risk for losing their best employees and failing to attract top talent at the same time. This is the perfect opportunity for companies that have not yet done so to embrace remote work, stemming the tide while there’s still time.

Remote Worker CEO Joseph Boll has continued to caution employers that they stand to lose out by shying away from remote work and this is no exception.

“Workers are clearly not backing down,” said Boll. “Once again, companies need to wise up or find themselves on the losing end of the pool.”

Companies can take advantage of online talent acquisition services like Remote Worker to help make sure they are attracting the best candidates for their remote work opportunities.
