CEO: Job opportunities abound in the green economy whether you have experience or not

The number of green jobs has continued to skyrocket and a candidate’s chances of being hired are higher than ever.

The CEO of a resource site dedicated to green jobs is encouraging anyone interested in renewability and sustainability to apply, noting that the number of green jobs has continued to skyrocket and a candidate’s chances of being hired are higher than ever.

“This same opportunity may not exist in a decade, once the green economy gets further developed and the UN’s SDGs are met,” said Joseph Boll, CEO of EcoCareers.org, an online jobs board and resource website for all jobs in sustainability. EcoCareers.org seeks to connect employers, hiring managers and HR personnel in the green sector with jobseekers and the top talent in their respective industries.

Boll said, “Right now, because everything’s still developing very quickly and countries are rushing to be world leaders in sustainability, there is a lot of opportunity to land your dream job — even if you don’t have work experience.”

Recent research by LinkedIn showed that businesses around the world hired as much as 50% more people with no green experience for new and emerging green jobs in 2022 than they did in 2021. Jobs like solar technicians, wind turbine technicians, sustainable consultants and more all saw significant increases in this regard, according to the data.

As such, EcoCareers.org recommended that jobseekers looking to land green jobs without experience take the following steps:

1. Don’t be afraid to apply
The number of green job opportunities around the world have dramatically increased over the last few years to the point where experts suspect there will be a severe labor shortage by 2030 if the pace of hiring doesn’t pick up. This means companies are more willing to bend their hiring requirements by accepting those without experience, so jobseekers who may be hesitant to apply have a higher chance of being hired than they realize.

2. Consider international or work-abroad opportunities
Countries like the UK, Ireland, the USA, Australia, Germany and others have all reported high percentages of hiring workers without green experience in 2022. With remote work and borderless workplaces still fairly popular, jobseekers should not throw out the possibility of being hired by a foreign company. EcoCareers.org encourages candidates to consider whether they may be open to international or work-abroad opportunities if they aren’t able to find listings for their dream job in their respective countries.

3. Upskill
Importantly, having some formal education, certification or other training can help increase chances of getting hired without green experience. While many companies are hiring inexperienced workers, those with education and skills are still generally preferred over someone without a relevant background entirely.
