The following press release informs you about Disease Outbreak during Tick Season helping.

Norwell Department of Health and Human Services (NDHS) is reminding the residents against the tick infestation that is upon us once again and that people should take the necessary precautions to prevent being bitten by the ticks and eventually being exposed to Lyme or other tick-borne illnesses. For instance, in 2013 alone, over 1600 cases of Lyme disease were identified in Norwell. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were close to 30,000 cases of the disease in 2012.

Caused by bacterium Borrelia, Lyme disease is usually transmitted to those who have been bitten by the infected black-legged also known as the deer tick. Since it’s very small, this kind of tick is usually very hard to see hence those who have been bitten may not even be aware. Ticks that carry Lyme may also transmit other diseases such as powassan virus, anaplasmosis, and babesiosis. While these diseases are not as common as Lyme, they may also cause serious illnesses. Tick control Norwell is, therefore, very important.

“Unfortunately, Lyme disease still remains very common in the area of Norwell,” Said the director of public health Dr. Joseph.” We cannot afford to allow our guards to go down since we also understand that the high proportion of ticks in Norwell may be infected with the Lyme virus. We, therefore, want everyone to take the required precaution to shield themselves and their families from this and other ailments that might be caused by ticks.” He added.

Some of the major symptoms of the Lyme disease include headache, fever, fatigue and often skin rash that resembles a bull’s eye. Thankfully, this disease is treatable with antibiotics. However, in case it’s not treated in time, it can lead to severe neck pain and headache caused by the inflammation of the spinal cord, swelling of the joints, shooting pains that may affect one's sleep, dizziness and heart palpitations.
