Aug 1, 2021, MUMBAI: Soch Foods, which started as a small kitchen enterprise in Goregaon, now sells its range of healthy granola snacks in supermarkets, five-star hotels and also, global customers. The company is making available Munchilicious granola online and in leading retail stores across the country.

The company has an interesting history. The efforts of a young wife to prepare homemade and healthy snacks for her husband to carry to the workplace inspired an innovative business idea.

Purvi Pugalia stumbled on the idea of making granola snacks for hubby Rohit Mohan Pugalia, who worked at a stockbroking firm in Kolkata in the early 2000s. When they moved to Mumbai in 2015, they decided to venture into the business of healthy snacks for executives. Starting with salads and fresh juices, they made giant strides by launching Soch foods in May 2016, which made and sold granola snacks under the name, Munchilicious.

Munchilicious was first marketed in online stores like Amazon and Flip Kart. The brand of healthy snacks first hit the retail shelf in Santa Cruz, Mumbai, in November 2019. Currently, their business, Soch Foods, markets these granola snacks to supermarkets and hotels across India. It boasts of an annual growth rate of a whopping 35%. In 2019, it ventured into the Singapore market through Lazada, a leading online store in the country. Presently, Soch Foods is eyeing the European market.
Granola is a snack or breakfast food comprising of honey, seeds, nuts, and oats which are baked together until crisp. Granola promotes digestion, reduces levels of cholesterol, manages blood pressure, enhances energy levels, and improves weight loss. It can be eaten straight out of the box, with milk or yogurt or with ice cream or smoothies.

Soch Foods began mass production of Munchilicious Granola in 2019. Production moved from home kitchen in Goregaon to production unit in Mumbai suburbs. All products are manufactured in ISO 22000: 2005 unit that has been certified by the Food Safety Management System.

The target group of Munchilicious includes urban customers pursuing a healthy lifestyle as well as restaurants and hotels. The snack appeals to those who prefer natural and organic eating, especially those who wish to control trans fats, salt, and sugar in their diet. The target who will buy munchilicious granola online also includes those wishing to snack while consuming alcohol and for breakfast in hotels.

The Munchilicious snacks from Soch feature in independent stores like Spencer’s in Kolkata and Godrej Nature’s Basket in Mumbai. It has a 50:50 online and offline presence across the country. It also sells in the Middle East, Sri Lanka, and Germany.

Munchilicious was initially marketed in 3 variants: Original, Dry fruits, and Dark chocolate. Recently, they added two more types: Grain-free (for vegans) and Savoury (with Indian spices).

The premise behind the brand is that no matter how healthy a food item is, it will not appeal to people unless it is appreciable by their taste buds. Products are packed, keeping track of hygiene, and the company has adopted the latest technology for packing, processing, baking, and manufacturing.
