nba 2k18 coins-Isaiah Thomas is set to make his debut as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night at home against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Boston Celtics traded Thomas during the offseason along with Jae Crowder and Ante Zizic to the Cavs for Kyrie Irving. The trade will forever be a significant one to NBA 2K as it marked the first time a cover athlete (Irving) was traded after being named as the face of the game, but before the upcoming season began.

With Thomas recovering from hip injury throughout the regular season in 2017, the All-Star point guard is ready to take the floor with his new team. I fired up NBA 2K18's MyLeague to simulate the rest of the Cavs' season with Thomas in the lineup to see where the game predicts for the team's future.

Thomas didn't appear to struggle to find his offense. While the presence of LeBron James and Kevin Love trimmed some of scoring from 28 points per game to 20.1, there was no question Thomas was still a deadly weapon with the ball.

He finished second on the team in assists per game average behind James and helped to push the Cavs to a 55-27 record which was good for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Unfortunately for Thomas and Cavs fans, the team was unable to catch the Celtics in the standings as they secured the top seed in the conference.
The Cavs met up with the Detroit Pistons in the first round of the playoffs and won that series in five games.

They ran into a buzzsaw in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in the form of the Washington Wizards. Somehow, John Wall and Co. upset the Cavs in five games. It's hard to imagine a scenario where the Wizards beat the Cavs in a series–let alone in five games.

Nonetheless, that was the result of the 2K Experiment.

The simulation showed the Cavs to be a far worse defensive team on the perimeter with Thomas on the floor. Perhaps that won't be the case in real life. The Cavs and Thomas will hope for him to mesh with the team as well as he did offensively in the simulation, but they'll obviously be looking for a better finish to the season.
