What is Arthritis?
Arthritis is a condition where your joints become inflamed and painful, making them stiff and hard to move. It can be caused by aging, injuries, or autoimmune disorders. Many women who have had chemotherapy for breast cancer may develop arthritis as a side effect, making their recovery more difficult.
Types of Arthritis
Osteoarthritis (OA): This occurs when the cartilage in your joints slowly wears away.
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): This is an autoimmune condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the joints.
Psoriatic Arthritis: This affects people with the skin condition psoriasis, causing joint pain, swelling, and skin problems.
Gout: A type of arthritis with sudden, severe pain, redness, and tenderness in the joints, often starting with the big toe, caused by too much uric acid forming crystals in the joints.
Ankylosing Spondylitis: This mainly affects the spine, causing inflammation and pain. Over time, the vertebrae can fuse, making the spine rigid and less flexible.
