San Ramon, California (March 12, 2015) –With the Millennials postponing home buying decisions, the real estate industry has taken a deep plunge and recovery is less likely in the immediate years to come. Should this be seen as a threat to the industry’s viability? Developer Leon Churchill believes this setback is just the start of something greater.

Many Millenials have pursued higher education and moved into the cities teeming with job opportunities, and where everything they need is just a stone’s throw away. Currently, their definition of living independently does not necessarily equate to the need for a larger space.

This may be a bit of a bad news for housing developers now competing for a slimmer market base, but research shows that this is actually temporary. As it is, Millennials are busy prioritizing dealing with their economic hurdles: student debts, insufficient income, low savings and poor credit scores are major reasons why they currently lack feasible means to finance their own housing. As soon as the household number and income grow, however, they are expected to start house hunting.

Leon Churchill notes, “Millennials are just getting started in life. Financial obstacles may be the thing for now. But they are a promising generation—highly educated and are no doubt, the future of the U.S. economy. Once they land a stable ground, so will the real estate industry.”

Millennials will be drivers of the housing trends for the years to come, and regardless of whether they choose to revert to traditional homeownership or not, their lifestyle and preferences would still dictate real estate developments. As Mr. Churchill would emphasize, “They’re the market— the core of every business.”
