OAKLAND, CA October 18, 2019: For 100 years, the Allen Temple Baptist Church has served as a beacon of light, not just for Deep East Oakland area residents, but also the Bay Area at large.

On Sunday, October 20, 2019, the Allen Temple Baptist Church will celebrate 100 years of ministry at three worship services – 8:00 AM, 11:15 AM and 3:00 PM. At the 8:00 AM and 11:15 AM worship services, the sermon will be brought by the Reverend Dr. Marvin McMickle, the 12th President of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School of Rochester, New York. At 3:00 PM, the sermon will be brought by the Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr, Pastor Emeritus of Trinity United Church of Christ of Chicago, Illinois.

Organized in 1919 by Reverend J.L. Allen at Seminary Avenue and East 14th Street (International Boulevard), Allen Temple has grown from a congregation utilizing 21 borrowed chairs to over 2,000 members who worship in person and online, and occupying a central campus comprised of one full city block and containing several buildings including a 74,800 square foot Family Life Center, four senior housing facilities, and ministry partnerships across the world. Allen Temple’s campus is accessible for persons with disabilities.
