The 57-year-old died in an accident opposite Koyambedu police station. His liver, kidneys, heart valves and corneas were donated.

On Tuesday, 22nd April, an MTC special-grade bus conductor met with an accident near Koyambedu market. He was rushed to the emergency department at MIOT International Multispecialty Hospital, Chennai. He had suffered severe brain injury.

Despite all efforts by the emergency doctors at MIOT, he was declared brain-dead. On Thursday afternoon, his family consented to donate his organs. Even in their tragedy, they helped to give hope to other, very ill people. The victim’s organs were harvested on Thursday night.

The liver was transplanted at MIOT International to an extremely sick patient, hailing from Vellore. “The patient is doing very well now,” said transplant surgeon, Dr. Paari Vijayaraghavan of MIOT Organ Transplantation Department. He reported that one of the victim’s kidneys was transplanted in another patient at MIOT, while the other was sent to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in the city. The heart valves were taken by Madras Medical Mission and both corneas were received by Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai.
