30th March 2020: With India under a complete lockdown to check the community spread of deadly Coronavirus, all educational institutions in the country are closed. Nevertheless, the zeal of active learners at Amity Global School stays afloat and the students are willing to pursue their academic curriculum from their homes.

Teachers are encouraging students to contact them for any query or concerns. They can get detailed explanations of concepts through virtual communication tools such as Google Hangouts and Skype. Some of the students are also using distance learning platforms such as Edmodo, Google Classroom and Seesaw to interact with their teachers.

Even though the teachers and students are not meeting in their usual classrooms, the lessons continue to be engaging. This Cambridge school in Noida is maintaining its students’ interest in the syllabus through videos, puzzles, mind maps, online games and even virtual tours to various places.

The school authorities are aware that not all homes have access to continual data connectivity. They also know that teachers and students may face technical issues such as buffering, unclear sound on headsets, lack of microphones, and problems in downloading and uploading content.

However, they can overcome such glitches by using suitable alternatives. As an example, students who cannot participate in a live classroom discussion through mic/headphones can be given PPT slides and key notes of the conversation through e-mail for reference.
The central idea is to normalise learning and school operations even amidst an unprecedented situation. Virtual classrooms are essential at this time to keep families safe from the dangers of Covid-19. Amity Global School terms its initiative ‘PPEN’ which is an abbreviation for Plan – Platform - Engage with Activities - Normalise Learning.

Parents have also appreciated these actions for their children and are supervising them to ensure that they use digital devices responsibly for such learning.

In a phase when staying at home is the best precaution against the pandemic, the endeavours of this Cambridge international school for continued education of its students are indeed praiseworthy.
