Safety Tips for Using an Essential Oils Car Diffuser

Many people don’t appreciate the health benefits of inhaling certified pure therapeutic essential oils.

Inhalation works just as well as ingesting or applying topically so a car diffuser should be on your list of essential oil supplies. A few safety tips can help you get the most benefits from your aromatic oils while keeping you and your passengers safe.

Pour the Right Amount of Oil

Less is more with essential oils so follow the supplier's instructions when diffusing in your car. Two or three drops should be enough for aromatherapy unless otherwise specified. Also pay attention to the oils you are using and their effects. Some are designed to relax or lull you and wouldn’t be appropriate for driving. Opt for oils that help you feel energized.

Set a Timer on Your Diffuser

Again, less is more when using an essential oil car diffuser. Having the diffuser on throughout doesn’t have an additional health benefits. In fact, the scent may become overwhelming especially for passengers with sensitive noses. Set your diffuser to release mist every 30 minutes to an hour. This should be enough to get the full health and scent benefits.

A Car Diffuser Doesn't Get Rid of Bad Smells

Aromatic oils smell nice and are great for masking bad smells but keep in mind that you are not solving the problem. If there is food rotting in the car, your diffuser isn’t the solution. Trace any offending odors to their source and clean appropriately. A car diffuser isn’t meant to take the place of good hygiene.

Store Your Oils Safely

Store your oils in essential oil glass containers and keep the tops tightly closed when not in use. Spilling the oil in your car means an overwhelming scent that can be difficult to get rid of. Store the containers away from children's reach.

Avoid Diluting Oils

There is no need to dilute your aromatic oils unless otherwise instructed by the supplier. Diluting with a carrier can actually clog the diffuser and shorten its lifespan. Use only the essential oils that are recommended for a car diffuser, in the appropriate amounts and for a limited duration.

Cleaning Your Diffuser

It is rarely necessary to clean your diffuser even when changing aromatic oils. The new oil you pour into the diffuser takes over the old scent. In any case, read the user manual to find out how to clean your diffuser if absolutely necessary.

A car diffuser can be a life changing accessory to use with your favorite essential oils. Make sure what you are using is certified pure therapeutic oils so that you are getting real health benefits rather than just a nice scent.
