Melissa Fitzpatrick is a registered nurse, a chief nurse executive, a successful healthcare executive and consultant who provides guidance to aspiring nurse leaders and those on their executive journey.

 
Melissa Fitzpatrick has been a registered nurse for almost forty years. After receiving her Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Nursing from Gwynedd Mercy College, she graduated Cum Laude in 1984 with a Master’s Degree in Adult Health and Illness from the esteemed University of Pennsylvania. All of her clinical roles were in the adult critical care environment with a specialty in medical and coronary critical care. Melissa joined the national speaking circuit in 1985 and became a highly sought after keynote speaker on clinical and leadership topics. She authored many peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters and served on numerous national committees and task forces.

A longstanding member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), Melissa served on AACN’s national Board of Directors for six years, culminating with her term as National President from 1995-1996. She was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing in 1997 and continues an active role in many nursing organizations. She reached thousands of nurses through monthly editorials as the Editor-in Chief of the Nursing Management Journal for three years. In that role she also led the annual Nursing Management Congress and was an inspiration to all who attended each year. Her career has been on a positive trajectory for decades from the hospital setting to the industry setting.

She has been the ‘first ever’ in several roles and has carved a niche as a leader in Industry, having spent the past fifteen years in roles at SAS and Hill-Rom.

Melissa Fitzpatrick is a consummate professional and a widely respected leader and mentor. She has held leadership roles at the Penn Health System, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and at Duke University Medical Center. She has held a variety of faculty appointments and is committed to preparing the next generation of nurse leaders.

She has been an advocate of participative leadership and shared governance for decades and has created groundbreaking teams who have achieved exemplary clinical, financial and satisfaction results. She has shared her leadership framework generously through speaking, writing and consulting and has many disciples of her leadership vision actively working in the profession and in the industry at large.
