Amid reports suggesting that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was planning to re-conduct the class 12 maths exam on May 1, the board on Tuesday, April 5, denied the claim.

The CBSE said that it did not plan to re-conduct the examination for the class 12 board maths paper.

The rumour mills went on rampage after a fake circular on social media went viral. Most of the students missed the 'Divas Murkha' written at the end of the circular.
However, the initial rumour led to a lot of confusion with students tweeting to HRD minister Smriti Irani and asking for clarification.

The class 12 board exam for maths was conducted on March 14, which students claimed, was of "IIT standard". The students even started a petition in the digital space change.org, calling for leniency in the mathematics paper evaluation process.
The issue was even raised in Parliament. The furors lead to the Board forming a committee of subject matter experts to look into the matter.

For students, scoring high marks in maths is important as it provides impetus to their overall score, thereby enabling them to decide on the choice of their college/subjects at graduation level.
