Pune Mahanagar Palika has taken an initiative to make their local buses smart! This is a part of their Smart City project that has been going on for two years now.
MassTrans stepped forward to help PMPML buses with their solutions. This has resulted in 400 buses getting sets of Intelligent Transportation System. This solution is expected to make traveling a smooth experience for travelers. ITS runs on a single control unit with emergency switches integrated into it. Surveillance cameras make the passengers feel safe, it also helps the operators to keep track of daily activities. Rearview camera and reverse parking system help Drivers Park in congested areas safely, without knocking out anything or anyone.
Bus Driver Console helps view internal and rear view of the bus. Speakers help with next and approaching stop announcements that lessen the chaos of passengers. LED destination display scrolls names of stops as they approach and help people throughout their journey. It is coordinated with GPS and GPRS for getting perfect geo-location. These signboards are up to five boards per bus. Drivers are also provided with MIC to announce any important message.
As per trusted sources from the MassTrans team, the execution of this project has started. It is estimated that by the end of this year, all the buses will be equipped with ITS.
