If you look at an e-cigarette you will notice that it looks just like a regular cigarette. However, the way it works is completely different. An e-cigarette has three different parts. A cartridge that contains liquid nicotine, an atomizer that creates the vapor and the piece that looks and acts like the actual cigarette. Officials feel that this lax legislation will cause more young people to pick up the awful habit of smoking. And while there are no hard numbers on just how many young people are using e-cigarettes, it is still a serious concern. At this point school districts have not reported seeing any students smoking electronic cigarettes on campus. And if they do, there currently aren't any rules stating how to deal with this type of situation.

According to Scott Rogers, the superintendent of one of the school districts in Idaho, e-cigarettes would be treated just like any other tobacco product that is found on school property. According to the Food And Drug Administration, e cigarettes contain some of the same chemicals that are found in anti freeze. Right now health officials are working on a statewide ban that would prohibit minors from being able to legally purchase the product. While an all out ban would be the ideal solution, the first line of business is to protect the youth of Idaho and make sure they can't get their hands on a product that could potentially be dangerous.
