To rent a magician for an event or function will cost money. Do you really get what you pay for?

If you want to rent a magician you may well be cost conscious. What to look for in your prospective magician is dealt with in other articles but here I want to look at the cost. What you might expect to pay.

Magicians' fees range greatly if you want to rent a magician you are unlikely to pay less than £300 for an evening's work. To some this may seem like a lot but a magician who charges less is unlikely to be professional. The running costs of the business are high and although a professional magician is unlikely to work more than three times a week the administration is time consuming.

There are many magicians who do not work full time and still provide good quality magic when they work. It is true that when you rent a magician who has a second job they may have reduced their fee which means you are getting a bargain. However most of these magicians charge according to their worth in the market and often more because there is no great pressure to work.

Prices range from a few hundred pounds to thousands if you are looking for the more high profile magicians which one would consider to be household names.

There is something to be said for experience and those magicians with a good track record who have been working successfully for a number of years are likely to charge £500 or more.

That is not to say that you can't rent a magician for less and feel you are in the hands of an experienced performer. However these performer's fees are not likely to stay low for long as they realise their worth in the market.

As I have said before being too cost conscious is probably a mistake. It is more important that you rent a magician that you like and respect. I have seen couples arranging a £20,000 wedding go for a magician because they were £100 cheaper, I guess it is just the way our minds work.

Would the guests really notice if the flowers cost a £100 less? Unlikely! However if they rent a magician who is just not good enough the guests will know and remember.

When you rent a magician for a Cabaret performance the pricing is very different. Those who have a great deal of experience in this area charge considerable fees. This is not an area where you should try and tighten your belt particularly at a high profile event.

Performing at a large corporate function with many tables and all the distractions that goes with it is not easy. For small events you can find a magician to rent who can perform good cabaret and the fees are consequently less.
