S.A. anchor Ursula Pari's Paramour wedding has her beaming

There's a reason KSAT-TV anchorwoman Ursula Pari has looked particularly radiant on the air of late -- actually, many reasons.

She recently tied the knot with longtime fiance Patrick MacLeod atop the Paramour bar.

Her new work schedule affords her more quality time at home with her two kids, Jackson and Georgia, by her first husband, WOAI anchorman Randy Beamer.

Moreover, she's pumped to jump on one of her beloved horses for a massive celebration of the hobby she's most passionate about: polo.

This is the first year Pari can call the annual Kings Cup polo match, a festive afternoon of adrenaline-racing competition, big hats and terrific food that she has enjoyed tremendously for the past couple of years, a true Fiesta event.

The San Antonio Polo Club presents the Fiesta Kings Cup from noon to 4 p.m. April 23 at the scenic Olmos Basin Park Sports Complex, 500 Devine Road.

"It's now official," she said in a phone chat. "This year we're a full Fiesta event. The event was so much fun, it made an impression."

Anyone who's willing to pay $10 in advance -- $5 for kids -- can thrill to an up-close-and-personal experience of the sport that's been a part of San Antonio's history for more than 100 years. Tickets go up to $150 per adult for a VIP ticket with a tented lunch and are for sale at sanantoniopoloclub.org or by calling 210-310-9866.

"That's another thing that's unique about polo. In polo, you're right up on the action, you feel the thundering hooves of the horses. You are there," Pari said.

Those who pay general admission, should bring their own chair or blanket, she said. There also will be a hat contest, phenomenal food for sale -- right off the grill -- and beer, wine, sodas and water, she added.

Onlookers also can observe polo teams representing Fiesta royalty, including "El Rey Feo" Fred Reyes and "King Antonio" Michael Casillas of the Texas Cavaliers, competing for the coveted Kings cup.

It's also a perfect place for fans of seasoned anchor and reporter Pari, who has delivered the news on KSAT for more than 20 years, to get up close and personal with the S.A. celebrity.

She said she looks forward to snapping photos with anyone who asks.

"I'm going to take lots and lots of selfies coming on and off the field. It lasts four hours, so there's a lot of time for that," she said.

It's certainly an ideal time to catch Pari in a terrific mood.

"I've always loved horses, and I picked up polo about 30 years ago," she said. "I was so excited when I got the job in San Antonio because this city has has a huge reputation around the world of being a polo mecca."

When she's atop one of her two white horses and playing, as she will be on that special Sunday, "there's nothing else happening anywhere in your brain – only strategy, survival instincts, your adrenaline pumping all the time. It's thrilling," she said.

Polo is only part of what's making the anchor beam so brightly these days.

In what she described as "kind of a pop-up wedding" -- an event that required barely a week's planning -- she finally married MacLeod, a retired pro athlete and lifetime graphic artist who popped the question to her nearly four years ago and has been a close family pal since Pari's high school days in Louisiana.

Why the delay? She described it as "complicated," but mostly involved the fact that he was away most of the time, in Florida. "But he moved back here last year," she said.

Although it was a simple wedding, Pari described the occasion -- on Valentine's Day -- as a joyous one. The people at the Paramour were very accommodating, she said. It was officiated by her boss' husband, and there was a nice dinner afterward with family.

Her new hubby, who also has developed "a super-addiction" to polo, will be playing in the Kings Cup, too -- but on a different team.

Making life even better, she said, is her new KSAT schedule. At the beginning of April, Pari dropped the 6 p.m. news and now co-anchors the noon hour and the half-hour at 5 p.m.

"It's a lovely schedule. I can be home by 5:45 -- time enough to really cook for the kids," she said.

Proceeds from the Fiesta Kings Cup benefit San Antonio polo and other nonprofits, including children's charities, Pari said.
