Perhaps a holiday to Vietnam is not all to visit only some famous tourist attractions and explore what everyone visit; sometimes experience and being with locals would be different things to get when you travel to a foreign country. Vietnam’s classic and charming capital, Hanoi, is the most astonishing area of all Hanoi, the old quarter dating back to almost 2000 years ago which home to a large number of small, narrow lined streets with special architectural design that attracts any visitor for a longer exploration, the area act as a soul of the town with its all lively bars and restaurants makes it a good place for cyclo ride as this is rated as the best activity to experience while in the old quarter of Hanoi.
Hanoi Old Quarter is located between the Hoan Kiem Lake, the Long Bien Bridge, a former city rampart; The Old Quarter began to acquire its reputation as a crafts area when the Vietnamese attained independence in the 11th century and King Ly Thai to build his palace in the current location.
However, while spending holiday to Vietnam in the old quarter of Hanoi which are locally known as the 36 streets, there are street names which attracts anyone with their alphabetical names and the similarity, this has also a separate story when in 13th century, the collection of tiny workshop villages which clustered around the palace walls evolved into craft cooperatives, or guilds and because inhabitants of each street came from the same village, streets developed a homogeneous look.
Some of the most interesting streets in the old quarter such as Hang Bac Street (Silver shops), Hang Be Street (bamboo raft), Cau Go Street (wooden bridge), Hang Dao Street (silk street), Dong Xuan Street (Market street), Hang Mam Street (Fish sauce) and many more.
Activities to do while in Old Quarter of Hanoi
Walking: Hanoi Old Quarter is not the most pedestrian-friendly city in the world, but walking is the best way to explore the Old Quarter. Walking from one end to another in the Old Quarter takes about 30 minutes.
Cyclo ride: Cyclo normally only does trip around the Old Quarter and to nearby attraction such as Temple of Literature but not longer than that. It is an enjoyable way to slowly swallow in the beauty of the city. Agree on a price before you set to go.
Electric car/ Green tourism: Several electric cars run tours around the Old Quarter. Sometimes it does not have fixed schedule but wait until it gets full, or you can pay full fare to charter the car. These cars will take you around the Old Quarter to highlighted streets.
Cycling: Hanoi Old Quarter is not the best place for cyclists, Way too many motorbike and honking will just make a ride not a recommended thing to do
