LTG Patrick O’Reilly Accepts New Appointment

LTG Patrick O’Reilly accepts a new appointment as a Senior Fellow in the Brent Scrowcroft Center for International Security of the Atlantic Council.

 
Retired LTG Patrick O’Reilly has recently accepted a new position, as a Senior Fellow in the Brent Scrowcroft Center for International Security of the Atlantic Council. The Brent Scowcroft Center for International Security is a division of the Atlantic Council that promotes international security relationships. LTG Patrick O’Reilly will contribute to the Atlantic Council’s long-standing focus on NATO and the transatlantic partnership, while also studying 'over the horizon' regional and functional security challenges to the United States, its allies, and partners.

LTG Patrick O’Reilly’s new position allows him to advocate solutions to security challenges to the United States and its allies, advocate space policies, and investigate the impact of new technologies and educating workforces to meet 21st century needs. His involvement will include analyzing new concepts of deterrence and collaborative defense for NATO and US interests in Asia and the Pacific. LTG Patrick O’Reilly will research new developments in those areas reinforced by his experience as a Project Manager for PATRIOT Advanced Capability 3 Missile, the Program Director for Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), the Program Director for the Ground-Based Missile Defense Program, and Deputy Director and Director of the Missile Defense Agency.

LTG Patrick O’Reilly is pleased at the prospects of the new opportunity, stating, “I am enthusiastic about my role as a Senior Fellow. I am excited to learn and collaborate with my colleges to influence agendas on both sides of the Atlantic.”

As someone with extensive defense and international experience, LTG Patrick O’Reilly’s experience aligns well with the Atlantic Council. His four years as Director of the Missile Defense Agency demonstrated his skills at incorporating significantly diverse perspectives and large amounts of data to form compelling policy proposals. “I have been fortunate to experience a broad spectrum of international perspectives over the years, and I’ve learned how to foster collaborative solutions among those perspectives. There are many daunting issues facing the transatlantic community in the 21st century,” said LTG Patrick O’Reilly.

Retired LTG Patrick O’Reilly also continues to consultant for industry and university leaders, and volunteers as a disaster relief specialist for the American Red Cross.
