Switching to Custom Shower Doors

Another benefit of custom shower doors is that they do not take up a lot of space.

Taking a shower is a relaxing thing for most people to do. If you are one of those people who loves to take long showers you probably like to keep your shower clean at all times. But if you are used to using shower curtains you know how quickly they start to look old and grimy, not to mention how hard they are to clean. In the end you end up taking a longer time in cleaning the shower curtain than in taking a shower. You can easily buy a new one, but if you consider the cost of new curtains on a regular basis it can add up fast.

If you are still using old shower curtains, now may be the time to switch to custom shower doors instead. These glass doors have significant advantages over using a shower curtain. First of all, they are easy to clean. All you have to do is clean the doors with glass cleaner every so often and they will look as good as new in an instant. There are also many doors that are treated so that the water will just slide off and not stain it. These doors may be more expensive, but if you think about how much time you will save it may be worth it in the long run. If you fail to keep a shower curtain dry it tends to stain the curtain with dark streaks that are hard to remove. With custom doors for the shower this is not an issue.

Shower doors also help you to keep the rest of the bathroom water-free. They enclose the shower area so all the water remains in that particular area. The company that you hire to install the doors will take all pertinent measurements so they will be able to fit the doors to your shower, no matter the size. That gap between the edge of the curtain and the shower wall is no longer there. Instead you have a solid wall of impenetrable glass. This means no more puddles on the floor after your shower.

Another benefit of custom shower doors is that they do not take up a lot of space. In fact, custom doors are ideal for smaller bathrooms. Shower curtains are bulky and take up a lot of space. Sliding glass doors, on the other hand, will not take up much space at all as it only follows the shape of the shower itself. And because it is translucent it will make your bathroom look even larger than before.

With all of it's benefits there are very few drawbacks to using custom shower doors. The biggest complaints are the upfront costs and the hassle of calling a glass company and having them install the new doors. These, however, are relatively minor issues when you consider that once your doors are installed you will have a beautiful-looking shower that will remain worry-free for years to come.

A good shower door or enclosure will be tailored to individual requirements and the space it needs to fit. They offer great top quality style, elegance and privacy. Modern sophisticated fixtures and fittings can give complete freedom of design. The great clean lines of a shower in your bathroom can add that fantastic finishing touch. Greatest care needs to be taken when measuring, designing and fitting your shower door to ensure and clean line and efficient enclosure. Don't forget to consider the dam height (the distance off the floor before the door starts) when measuring up.

You need to think about if your shower door is to open inwards or outwards. This usually depends on the ergonomics of the space you are working with. Visualise how your shower will work when you are using it and how the door will move within the space. An inward opening door means less water will get into the bathroom but can be awkward. An alternative to a door, where there is room, is to have in line and square enclosures with no door at all. These are more suitable in a wet room environment.
