With religious persecution a centuries-long struggle, Spiritual Literacy Day seeks to create understanding.

CLEARWATER, Fla. – In recognition of December’s Spiritual Literacy Month, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of Florida welcome all to their center to learn more about Scientology and its practical application to life. The center is located at 101 N. Fort Harrison and is open daily.

“Religious persecution has been around for centuries and it's part of the Volunteer Minister program to promote religion as a necessary part of community life. Freedom of religion for all is only accomplished through mutual respect and support. It all starts with one person being interested in another fellow's faith.” said Daira Moreno, the Executive Director of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of Florida. “To raise awareness on other religions and systems of belief, authors Frederic and Mary Brussat established Spiritual Literacy Day in 1996.”

Per the website NationalToday.com, “Frederic and his wife started encouraging people around them to read spiritual books on different religions as they felt this would equip them with knowledge of the world’s religions and, in turn, help them gain insight into the peculiarities of the spiritual traditions that are associated with them.”
“Scientology is based on the work of its founder, L. Ron Hubbard and is a relatively new religion,” said Moreno. “In the non-religious moral code The Way To Happiness, Mr. Hubbard wrote: ‘If all the brightest minds since the fifth century B.C. or before have never been able to agree on the subject of religion or anti-religion, it is an arena of combat between people that one would do well to stay out of.’ The purpose of Spiritual Literacy Month has the purpose to get people to look at a different religion or spiritual practice for themselves which is exactly what we support this day.”

To that end, the Volunteer Ministers Center offers videos on basic principles of Scientology and how these principles are used. The Center also provides free classes, holds seminars and workshops to which all are invited.

The Volunteer Minister Center is open from 10:30am to 1pm and 2:00pm to 6:00pm on weekdays, and from 2:00pm – 6:00pm. For a schedule of upcoming seminars and special events, please call 727-467-6965.

About the Scientology Volunteer Ministers:

The Volunteer Minister program, created in the mid-1970s by L. Ron Hubbard and sponsored by the Church of Scientology International as a religious social service today constitutes one of the largest and most visible international independent relief forces.

Hundreds of thousands, Scientologists and others, have been trained in person or online in a wide range of skills that use Scientology fundamentals to bring relief from physical, mental or spiritual suffering and improve any aspect of life—communication, study, marriage, parenting, dealing with stress, success in the workplace, achieving goals and many more.

Additionally, a global network of volunteers form the permanent Volunteer Ministers Disaster Response Team that mobilizes in times of disaster caused by humans or nature, answering the call wherever needed. Collaborating with some 1,000 organizations and agencies, they have utilized their skill and experience in providing physical support and spiritual aid at hundreds of disaster sites.
