[OGDEN, OCTOBER 10, 2016] – Lindquist Mortuaries and Cemeteries, a funeral and cemetery provider since 1867, provide military funeral honors in northern Utah. The ceremonial paying of respect is a way of showing the nation’s gratitude to individuals who have faithfully defended the United States of America, as well as to their families.

What are the military funeral honors?

Mandated by U.S. law, the rendering of military funeral honors is a final demonstration of gratitude and respect for eligible deceased veterans.

The eligible veteran will have an honor guard detail of not less than two members of the Armed Forces — one member of which is a representative of the deceased veteran’s parent branch of service. The ceremony performed by the honor detail includes the folding and the presentation of the American flag to the next of kin, as well as the playing of taps.

According to Lindquist Mortuaries and Cemeteries, the following deceased veterans are eligible to have military funeral honors:
• Military members on active duty;
• Military retirees;
• Members and former members of the Selected Reserve;
• Eligible U.S. veterans of any war;
• And other U.S. veterans who served at least one term of enlistment and separated under conditions other than dishonorable.

Lindquist Mortuaries and Cemeteries also processes the request for a Presidential Memorial Certificate for honorably discharged, deceased veterans. President John F. Kennedy initiated the engraved paper certificate in March 1962. The current President signs the memorial certificate.
