The definition of Feng-Shui is wind, water and it is an art of ancient China that has origins in Buddhism which has its origins in India. In the practice of Feng-Shui you place the objects and furniture in your home to create a balance in your living space and therefore your life. But it is more than just where you place the things in your home it is about the study of people, space and time. The Chinese believe that life forces energy or ‘chi’ has an influence on life. Creating harmony and balance of this life force is the practice of Feng-Shui.

In the home vastu is derived from the Sanskrit word for the Earth or “Bhu”. The idea that every material found in the Universe radiates energy at a specific frequency. Energy is either negative or positive. Negative energy is harmful while positive is beneficial. You can maximize the beneficial home vastu by use of natural light, fresh air and water.

There are five elements of energy in Feng-Shui: Earth, Fire, Wood, Water and Metal. The process is cyclical in nature in that when you burn wood it creates ash which makes Earth in which metals are found. The metals liquefy the water that in turn produces wood. Creating harmony is done by making adjustments to the home and it will in turn bring you happiness, success and prosperity.

The entrance of your home should be well lit and welcoming. The living room, it should also be welcoming place for the people to relax and spend time together. It should have natural light and air flow. Avoid using too many pieces of furniture or shelving. When you have shelves that are open it will invite abundance and monetary gain. The bedroom, it should be peaceful and happy. The bed placement is important. It should be placed near the corner of the room diagonal from the door. The stove in the kitchen in Feng-Shui represents wealth and should be place as far from the sink as possible. Neither the kitchen nor the toilet should be visible from the entrance of the home. The bathrooms should be placed on the sides of the home and never should a toilet be in the center of the home.

Color has an important role in home vastu. Location and design are all associated with the home vastu movement. If the construction of the home is weak then the vastu will also be weak. If you wish to have a strong home vastu then you need a strong home construction. All aspects of the home are needed to be taken into consideration from the kid’s room, the master bedroom, the garage, kitchen and every other room of the house. In theory the master bedroom should face southwest. Other rooms should have a central, central west or southern direction. If you have a meditation or prayer room in your home it should be sandal or yellow in color. There are many considerations to making your home balanced in the Feng-Shui or vastu method.
