Laura Motes is looking for the next stage of her second career as a nurse. She hopes to attend Georgia Regents University to earn her Master’s degree in Nursing in 2016.

Laura Motes hopes to start studying to become a registered nurse by earning her Master’s degree in nursing from Georgia Regents University in the fall of 2016. Motes lives in Watkinsville, Georgia and has been working constantly to help her community for decades. She has been working in the medical industry in her local community at the Athens Regional Medical Center and with Managed Medical Transport for six months in preparation for her entry into the nursing field.

Laura Motes was a police officer for 21 years before she decided to shift gears. She was an extremely highly trained officer. She graduated with honors from the US Army Military Police Training course at Fort McClellan, Alabama before she joined up with the police academy in 1993. Since then she recorded over 2000 hours of police training before and after she officially began her career with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in 1993. She started off as a patrol officer, helping to ensure that the community is protected and that it gets assistance when needed. Motes then moved up to the vehicles-for-hire licensure department and eventually became a Sergeant with the West Precinct. There, she was in charge of personnel decisions, including training and allotment of officers in certain areas, communication with the media, courts and other departments, and the professional development of new officers to the force.

Laura Motes left the force in 2014 as a Sergeant and decided to pursue another avenue of helping her community. She earned all the prerequisites she needed to start working with Managed Medical Transport and the Athens Regional Medical Center and the prerequisites for the Master of Nursing program at Georgia Regents University, a program she hopes to start in the fall of 2016. With her degree, she hopes to work in the nursing field and help doctors and patients provide and receive the best care possible.

Laura Motes knows she has what it takes to be an excellent nurse. She has dedicated her professional life to serving and protecting others, and she believes that the same civic attitude can be used to nurture and protect patients in the medical system in her local community.
