Kyle Bellini - How to Win (and Keep) a Commercial Real Estate Position

Posted May 23, 2016 by kylebellini

Real estate students like Kyle Bellini spend considerable time researching how to obtain and retain their dream positions.

Aspiring commercial real estate professional Kyle Bellini will graduate with his Master of Science degree in Real Estate (MSRE) in May of 2016. Students who are anticipating graduation, as Kyle Bellini is, spend time researching how to get the jobs that they desire and how to then keep them.

The following tips are examples of ones that students and young professionals employ to boost their career potential:

Be Happy
Deciding to be happy and approach work with a positive attitude will allow you to excel in interviews and new positions. Project positivity, smile frequently and never complain about your home life. Even if you don’t feel like it at the moment, deciding to be happy is almost always the best professional option.

Be Well-Read
Read books that will help you hone your people skills and your business etiquette. For example, Dale Carnegie’s classic “How to Win Friends and Influence People” is often considered mandatory reading material for real estate professionals. If you can’t find a list of books to read, consider inquiring with a professor that you respect for recommendations.

Be Polite
Even if you aren’t in a polite mood, always be polite to everyone that you speak with. Whether it’s a random person outside the building, the receptionist or a rude client, you should treat everyone in a polite manner.

This makes you look positive to your interviewer and, once you have the job, it makes you stand out if your coworkers do not follow the same rule.

Be Passionate
Approach your work with passion, not boredom or obligation. Even if your day’s duties include waiting in the reception area for an hour, followed by a boring meeting and then taking a long, unexpected phone call, approach each with passion. Passion is enough to drive people through long hours, stressful days and unclear directions.

If you, like Kyle Bellini, are preparing to enter a real estate position, focus on traits like those above. They will help you become a better professional and, in doing so, become a better person.
