As speculated Sanju Samson was named as the replacement for Shikhar Dhawan in the upcoming T20I series in New Zealand. The BCCI also released the ODI squad and Prithvi Shaw earned his maiden call.

Dhawan out of New Zealand tour

Shikhar Dhawan’s shoulder injury already threw him out of the five-match T20I series against New Zealand. Now he is not even included in the ODI squad that will be playing against India after the T20I series. Dhawan at first was hit by a Pat Cummins delivery during the second ODI of India-Australia series. Then he hurt himself while fielding in the first half of the series finale in Bangalore. As a result, he did not come to bat and KL Rahul was sent to open the Indian innings in his place.

Later the scans revealed that Dhawan had a serious injury on his left shoulder. The Indian team already had left for New Zealand on Monday without their star opener. The hit was there which was confirmed on Tuesday morning.

Samson and Shaw enter

The names of Sanju Samson, Prithvi Shaw, and Mayank Agarwal were being guessed as the replacement of Dhawan. Samson was leading the guessing game because of his small T20I exposure. Prithvi Shaw, on the other hand, came back to the cricket scene after his suspension and went with the India A team to New Zealand.

Now the board named Sanju Samson as the replacement for Dhawan in the T20I series. Prithvi Shaw earned his maiden ODI call up for India for the same reason.
