The Importance of Conservation

Conservation remains as important as it has ever been, even if it doesn't make the headlines. Find out how you can make a difference, no matter how big or small, here

The Kruger National Park is one of the world’s biggest and oldest conservation efforts. Designed to preserve the wildlife and the habitats that are unique to South Africa, the Kruger National Park remains one of the most important examples of old world and modern conservation. It is one of the most important places in the country, for those who want to appreciate what has been preserved in Africa and for those who want to learn more about how they can do something small to help conserve the wildlife and habitats around us.

You don’t need reminding that we only have one earth. You also don’t need to be told that on our one earth, we share our existence with all sorts of interesting animals and insects, many of whom we actually rely on to survive. While conservation no longer makes headlines like it used to, it is without a doubt something that is still very important, perhaps now more than ever.

People tend to think of themselves as something disconnected from nature, but we are closely intertwined with the wilderness around us. Not only do we need to be a part of nature in order to survive, but we also need to act as custodians of the natural world. Just as we have the power to heal the environment, we also have the power to harm it. In our role as protectors of nature, we can do certain things to keep the environment healthy and thriving.

Quite simply put, the greatest benefit of conservation of any kind is that it will preserve wildlife and its habitats. This simple act of protection is not a matter of discussion, because it is so important that we make sure that we preserve the wildlife for the coming generations to be able to see and enjoy.

How to play a small role in conservation
Many tend to think that conservation needs to be a grand effort, but it can be something as simple as peacefully exploring the natural habitats of wildlife and cleaning up litter and other things that are could be doing harm, such as oil spills.

You can also think of replenishing the earth in some small way. You can look at how your home garden is being treated or you can take part in community tree planting efforts.

And although it is a costly and sometimes difficult topic to discuss, there is the option of moving partly to using renewable energy rather than fossil fuels. This is not something everyone can do, but it is certainly something worth thinking about.

The best way to see the Kruger National Park, and to find out more about why this corner of the world is such an important place to see, you can book a Kruger Park safari. In the company of a safari guide, who knows a lot about conservation, you can learn more about the history of the conservation efforts of the past as well as what is being done now to preserve this special bit of untouched land.
