Pronation is a natural movement which helps in lowering the shock your leg feels on landing. This phenomenon helps distribute your body weight throughout your feet’s sole which is desirable. While some people pronate more, others pronate less. And few pronate the ideal way; the neutral way. Overpronation and Underpronation can cause serious injuries while playing a sport.

Here’s some guidelines that will help you pick the right running shoe that will neutralise any abnormal pronation:

For Overpronators
Overpronators are those athletes whose foot rolls inwards way more than what is ideal. When this happens, and you try to push off the ground, only the big toe and the second toe will have to do all the work. It becomes difficult to stabilize your body weight as efficiently. In the long run, this might lead to ankle or toe injuries.

Hence, shoes which offers a good amount of support is best suited for such overpronators.

Most people overpronate. And majority of the market caters to this large group. Motion control and stability shoes are best suited for overpronators.
For Underpronators
Underpronators are those athletes whose feet on contact with the ground rolls inwards less than what is ideal. Like in overpronation, the opposite is true for such players. The little toe and the outside of the feet take most of the weight. The force of impact is not distributed as efficiently and the outside of the foot, the smallest part is subjected to strain.

There are no footwear that are designed specifically for underpronators. But there is one thing to keep in mind. Underpronators must simply avoid footwear that are designed for overpronators and opt for those designed for neutral pronators.

Opting for shoes that do not limit your feet’s flexibility are the right ones. You can also look for shoes that have soft midsole as this will promote your pronation. Shoes that allow your feet to be flexible and that has minimal inside support are best suited for underpronators.

Conclusion
It is crucial to first understand what category your feet falls in before you go shopping for shoes. Once you understand your feet, you can opt for the right pair. Remember, your comfort is the most important thing.
