Als erstes haben die Tester drei Solar-Ladegeräte von unterschiedlichen Herstellern unter die Lupe genommen. Im Anschluss testeten sie zwei Solar-Powerbanks derselben Marke. Mithilfe eines USB-Testers wurde gemessen wie viel Leistung (in Watt) das Ladegerät generieren kann, wenn eine leere RAVPower-Akkubank mit einer Kapazität von 22.000 mAh an den USB-Port eines der Ladegeräte angeschlossen wird.Nach dem ersten Testlauf überprüfte man dann, wie lange es dauert, bis ein Huawai P8 Lite Smartphone aufgeladen ist. Zu Beginn wurde der Anker PowerPort Solar mit 21W (Provisions-Link) geprüft. Dieses Solar-Ladegerät wiegt ungefähr ein halbes Kilo und besteht aus vier Elementen. Es ist für circa 60 Euro zu haben. Drei der Elemente enthalten ein Solar-Panel. Das vierte Element ist eine Tasche. Der Anker PowerPoint Solar mag erst ziemlich groß erscheinen, aber dank des Polyestergewebes lässt es sich auf 160 mm Dicke zusammenfalten. Aufgrund der Edelstahl-Ösen, die das Ladegerät besitzt, kann man es mühelos an einem Rucksack befestigen.

Die Tester kamen zum Ergebnis, dass bei strahlender Sonne ein Maximalwert von 10W erreichbar ist. Bei Wolken hingegen kann nur ein Wert von 1,5W erzielt werden. Der Anker PowerPort Solar benötigt rund drei Stunden, bis er vollständig aufgeladen ist. Allerdings wurde der Maximalwert, den Anker angibt, bei den Messungen nicht erzielt. Anschließend testeten sie ein Solar-Panel von RAVPower mit einer Leistung von 16W (Provisions-Link). Er besteht auch aus vier Elementen wobei ebenfalls eines davon eine Tasche darstellt. Genau wie das Ladegerät von Anker besitzt er Ösen zum befestigen. Da RAVPower-Gerät ist im Vergleich leichter und kleiner und hat eine geringere Leistung. Der maximale Messwert bei Sonnenschein lag bei 7,2W und bei Wolken nur bei 0,7W. Erst nach vier Stunden war das Huawai P8 Lite vollständig aufgeladen.
