Plainview, July 15th – Gary Bloom, father of baby Violet, has launched a Kickstarter to promote gender equality with a revolutionary comic book. Bloom hopes that his comic book will result in baby steps towards changing the world, and creating a more gender equal America for his baby daughter

“If we can raise a generation of boys and girls on a comic book that shows male and female heroes on equal footing,” Bloom explains, “we can hope that they not only emulate it, but seek out more gender equal entertainment across the board.”

The new Red Lance comic book features female heroes dressed appropriately for heroics, while typical comic books over-sexualize female protagonists, shrinking their costumes for exaggerated sex appeal. Furthermore, traditional female comic book heroes tend to have secondary and diminished powers or roles. All of the heroes and villains in the Red Lance storyline are based on actual human beings known to the creator.

“Cinderhawk, the team lead, is inspired by a confident, upbeat woman that I’m friends with,” Bloom continued. “Pictures of her, and the others, were presented to the artist with a simple directive: don’t embellish their bodies!”

While the comic book takes a new twist on powers, scripting and villainy as well, none of this will see the light of day without assistance from the rest of the world.
