When the Land Was Sacred: Exhibit Opening & Reception November 3, 2013, Sunday, 1:30 p.m. at East Library, 5550 N. Union Blvd.

The book 'Be Brave, Tah-Hy' written by Jack R. Williams, one of the native American creation stories, is announced as the featured book for the Pikes Peak public Library District's Literary celebration of Western United States Indian Culture.

Jack R. Williams served as the Superintendent of the Reservation from 1969-1975. Asked by the Elders of the Nez Perce to write their story, Jack decides to write a history book of native Americans. The story was told directly to him by the Nez Perce elders from their perspective.

The book tells the story of the Nez Perce War of 1877 through in the words and the eyes of Chief Joseph's daughter. This is real native American story. Based on actual events, this appropriately illustrated biographical novel is intended not only for young adults, but also older readers. Be Brave, Tah-hy! presents many aspects of the Nez Perce Dreamer culture and reminds what was lost when the Nimiipuu were overpowered and displaced.

'Be Brave, Tah-hy!' is a perfect history book, not only for the youth of the Nez Perce, but for all middle school aged boys and girls.
