Franklin NH, September 29—RDS Dock Hardware (www.rdsdockhardware.com) suggests that “The time to inspect floating docks is just before the cold weather hits, that the dead of winter is not the time to think about taking care of floating docks—especially in Northern climates.

The proper maintenance and repair of floating docks in rivers,high-tidal-flow waters, and dam controlled sections of rivers is especially critical before Winter. That’s because those docks will not only have to survive winter’s torment, they’ll need to take on Spring runoff from snow packs before a second inspection is likely.

“When there’s a spring season that combines high snow melt, a heavy spring storm and high tide, it’s not unusual for us to get calls for dock floats, floating dock hardware and everything else you can think of because a whole lot of people watched as their floating docks washed out to sea or across a river or lake said Chris Leuteritz, PE, owner of RDS Dock Hardware.

A worn out, near-shore dock hinge or other piece of floating dock hardware can cause a cascade of problems in the presence of high tidal flow. When that one, worn hinge facing all that flow gives way, it causes the whole dock to put breaking-point pressures on other floating dock hardware. The dock twists and a second hinge breaks, set all or most of the dock free.

About RDS Dock Hardware

Unlike other manufacturers of dock hardware components who use cast iron or galvanized products, RDS Dock Hardware is produced from a solid aluminum casting manufactured out of an the same alloy used by the U.S. Navy for use in marine and coastal environments. The use of this alloy coupled with the extensive field experience that RDS possesses, translates directly into the quality and durability of their dock hardware, whether it’s on the calm waters of a fresh water pond, or the powerful tides present in an ocean marina. RDS makes a complete line of floating and static dock hardware, including decking, framing and accessories. For information, visit http://www.rdsdockhardware.com
