Although she is just 19 years old, Kimberly Riso is already well on her way to achieving her goals. She has always excelled in school, and at the age of four, she demonstrated such a huge desire to learn that she skipped a year of preschool to start kindergarten early. Throughout elementary school, she always received good grades and had amazing attendance. She was home schooled from sixth to ninth grade because she desired to spend more of her time learning and studying, and then chose to go back to a traditional high school setting for tenth grade. She excelled there, making the presidential list, and then graduated at sixteen. She continued to take classes at a local state college while continuing to be involved in high school activities.

Once she turned eighteen, Riso decided to attend Nova Southeastern University. She was impressed by the school’s attention to their student’s needs and personal feel. When she was very young, she needed glasses, and the process of visiting the optometrist inspired her to want to study the eyes when she got older. Kimberly Riso is currently studying to get into NSU’s optometry school after graduating with her bachelor’s degree. Optometry school can be quite competitive, so to gain extra experience, Riso shadows a professional optometrist in her free time to learn more about the career. She also loves to volunteer, and has been volunteering at a local hospital every week for several years.

Outside of school, Riso has several hobbies and interests. She started gymnastics at a very young age, and spent much of her free time practicing in the gym. She joined the cheerleading team in high school so she could continue to pursue this interest. She also loves to travel with her family, and has been fortunate enough to visit Alaska, Europe, and the Bahamas. She hopes to travel more in the future. Other favorite activities of Riso’s include baking, watching movies, sewing, and learning more about science and history. Kimberly Riso’s huge desire to learn sets her apart from her peers, and she looks forward to learning more as she pursues her many goals and has new life experiences.
