D2D now empowers self-published authors in collaborations, box sets, and more

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, November 18, 2020— Today Draft2Digital announces a new way for authors to engage in paid collaborative projects, with the introduction of D2D Payment Splitting.
Perhaps one of the most requested features from independent authors, D2D Payment Splitting will allow self-publishers to have direct control over sharing royalties with collaborators, co-authors, and co-creators. Draft2Digital’s goal has been to make it easy for project organizers to determine a percentage to be shared with collaborating authors, as well as aiding individual contributors with fulfilling tax requirements for their projects.
“Our authors have long asked for a payment splitting solution, and we’re thrilled to be able to provide something that we feel is unique and versatile,” says Draft2Digital CEO and Co-Founder, Kris Austin. “We have a lot of experience in building tools for this side of the business, with prior tools like D2D Shared Universes. We’ve applied that know-how to create a new service that makes payment splitting simple and easy for authors.”
D2D Shared Universes allowed the intellectual property owners of a fiction universe to open their world up for contributors to be able to publish original works, based on that property, and to share royalties from those works. The tool was created to replace Amazon’s Kindle Worlds program, which was shut down in 2018.
Building on the backbone of D2D Shared Universes, D2D Payment Splitting implements some of the best features of that tool, while incorporating new and thoughtful resources meant to make it easier for authors to participate in co-authoring, box sets, and more.
Mark Leslie Lefebvre, Draft2Digital’s Director of Business Development, states, “I have long believed that the future of publishing would be more collaborative and that indie authors would be a driving force in that change. This new tool makes it easier for authors to not only collaborate in a seamless way, but to allow the system to handle the finances, the payments, without the headaches that, until now, have come along with it.”
As with all books published through Draft2Digital, authors maintain 100% of their copyright. D2D Royalty Splitting will simply make it easier to share a percentage of a book’s royalties between multiple contributors and/or copyright holders. D2D will provide the same safe and secure payments as is currently implemented for individual authors.
All terms, rights, and royalty shares for collaborative projects are determined by the Organizer. Draft2Digital does not determine or regulate royalty splits, copyrights, or terms of agreement between collaborating authors
“For me as a writer,” Lefebvre says, “and for so many other creators out there, this new tool’s functionality will enable opportunity and is going to be a significant game changer.”
