Delhi: Ketomac shampoo, available at ketomac.co.in and in drug stores, is a broad spectrum anti-fungal agent used to treat skin problems, especially dandruff.
Details about the product were revealed by top executives of the company in a recent press meeting held in the city.
Ketomac is composed of Ketoconazole and is used for applying topically, to serves as a synthetic, broad-spectrum antifungal compound in a 2% concentration in a cream/shampoo base. It can work as dandruff shampoo for color treated hair.
It is an azole antifungal, which works by preventing the growth of fungi. It is part of the drug familylike itraconazole, miconazole, and fluconazole.
Ketoconazole works by killing fungi on skin namely, Malassezia. This type of fungi exists naturally on the skin, but persons with dandruff have been found to have an excess of these fungi. Ketoconazole works by interrupting synthesis of ergosterol, a crucial component of fungal cell membranes. Thus, cell membranes are weakened. The weakened membrane of a fungal cell permits leaking out of cell contents, ensuing in its death.
“Dandruff is a type of skin eczema referred to as seborrhea, but usually, it doesn’t cause hair loss. Dandruff scales consist of a group of corneocytes that cohere with each other and get loose from the skin surface. The abundance and size of scales are different from one site to another. A number of anti-fungal treatments have been found to be effective, such as selenium sulfide, zinc pyrithion, and ketoconazole. The most effective remedy has been found to be Ketoconazole shampoo,” said an executive.
Ketomac shampoo is used for preventing and treating dandruff. It treats itching, scaling and flaking as well as inflammation associated with dandruff. It is an ideal dandruff shampoo for colored hair.
“There is a way to use Ketomac shampoo. Wet scalp and hair thoroughly. Apply a small amount of the shampoo to your scalp and massage to a lather. Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes and rinse the scalp thoroughly. Use twice a week for 4 weeks. After you notice clearing of dandruff, use Ketomac shampoo once a week to prevent re-emergence of dandruff to keep the scalp clear.
