Manhattan Plastic Surgeon Dr. Mihye Choi on Using Restylane to Treat Wrinkles

Plastic surgeon Dr. Mihye Choi recommends Restylane, an injectable gel, to safely smooth out facial wrinkles.

New York, NY ( prfree.org ) February 7, 2014 - From BOTOX® to Juvederm, there are many options for injectables. One of the most popular injectable gels currently available is Restylane, which diminished the look of fine line and wrinkles by expertly plumping skin.

Manhattan plastic Surgeon Dr. Mihye Choi recommends the procedure for women and men who are looking to achieve a more youthful look. Dr. Choi, who is currently an assistant professor for the Department of Surgery at the New York University School of Medicine, performs the cosmetic procedure at KCNY Plastic Surgery.

Restylane, which was approved by the FDA more than a decade ago, is made of a biodegradable, non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid. Unlike some injectables, it is not derived from animal sources, so poses very little risk of causing an allergic reaction in patients. Because of this, it conveniently doesn't require a pre-procedure allergy test.

The safe, effective soft tissue filler is composed of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the body. Hyaluronic acid serves to keep skin hydrated, healthy, soft and supple. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is synthetic, or artificially created, but it mimics the body's own hyaluronic acid and is completely biocompatible.

At her office, Dr. Choi expertly administers Restylane through several injections made using an ultrafine syringe. Prior to the procedure, she consults with each patient to determine the best amount and placement of Restylane needed in order to achieve their desired results.

Restylane can address several aesthetic concerns, including severe facial wrinkles and folds. These wrinkles include laugh lines around the mouth and nose, also known as the nasolabial folds. The results from the initial treatment can last for an average of six months, and follow-up appointments for another set of injections can further prolong Restylane's effect.

Not only does Restylane's injected volume add fullness and contour to the skin, it also attracts water molecules to the site of injection, which in turn further enhances the treatment's effectiveness.
