Millions of people have lupus, with 60% being photosensitive. UV rays from fluorescent lights can trigger health problems in these people. Low cost filters are now available to block UV rays from common fluorescent lights.

Ames, IA, May 21, 2014 -- Approximately two million Americans have been diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus or SLE. Lupus is an autoimmune disease whereby the human immune system becomes overactive and attacks healthy tissue. Symptoms include inflammation, swelling, and damage to skin, joints, kidneys, blood, heart, and lungs. It has been known for sometime that approximately 60% of lupus sufferers are photosensitive and react negatively to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun and artificial lighting. UV rays generated by normal fluorescent lights can trigger serious health problems in these individuals. Low cost and easy to install light filters are now available to block all UV light radiated by fluorescent light fixtures used in the workplace, at home and in retail settings, bringing potential relief to thousands of lupus sufferers.

The UV filters are available through VistaBright Lighting and are offered in two different formats; transparent plastic sleeves that slip over all standard fluorescent tubes (T5, T8, & T12), or translucent plastic overlay sheets measuring 2 ft. by 4 ft. that are placed inside conventional ceiling light fixtures commonly found in offices and many retail stores. The overlay sheets can also be cut with scissors to make custom sizes and shapes for smaller light fixtures, such as lamps equipped with Compact Fluorescent (CFL) bulbs.

The range of reactions to UV rays radiated by artificial lighting is quite broad, including nausea, irregular heartbeat, skin rashes, dizziness, fatigue, eye strain, migraine headaches, blurred vision, inability to mentally focus, disorientation, watery eyes, irritability, physical weakness, etc. People with lupus report negative reactions to UV rays with exposure times of 30 minutes or less. In addition, those afflicted with fibromyalgia or arthritis are quite frequently photosensitive. Certain prescription drugs can also cause people to become photosensitive. In fact, there are over 150 commonly prescribed medications that cause the human body to become sensitive to UV rays. A full list of the medications, and articles about light sensitivity can be found at http://www.vistabright.com/health.html. Regardless of the cause, those suffering these negative reactions now have the possibility of finding relief using the UV filters from VistaBright Lighting.

“We are spreading the word about these fantastic UV filters because they offer the potential to help eliminate light sensitivity issues for lupus sufferers and others who are photosensitive. We've put lots of useful information, including testimonials on our website, plus the filters can now be purchased through our VistaBright online store in small or large quantities” said Craig Pringle, VistaBright's General Manager.

Pringle pointed out that the filters not only Absorb 100% of the harmful ultraviolet (UV-A and UV-B) radiation, but also minimize or totally eliminate glare related headaches, eyestrain, and stress caused by fluorescent lighting. He explained that the filters are spectrally enhanced to closely replicate the sun's visible light spectrum, transforming standard fluorescent light output into quality color-balanced light, but minus the UV rays.

Founded in 2009, VistaBright Lighting is a nationwide marketer of energy efficient industrial and commercial lighting equipment, but also sells directly to the public via their online store. VistaBright Lighting encourages healthcare providers and those experiencing light sensitivity issues to review detailed technical information on their UV filters by accessing documents via http://www.vistabright.com/filters.html.
